Fire Retardant Treatment

Upgrade the performance of timber in a fire

Despite timber being classed as a combustible construction material, it will perform exceptionally well compared with other materials. It can maintain its strength and integrity in a well designed structure. Large dimension timbers will develop a surface layer of char which will insulate the timber within and retard the fire development.

The surface of timber will readily ignite and spread along it's surface. We can slow this 'surface spread of flame' through use of modern pressure treated fire retardants. Smoke propagation will also be reduced, which is often even more important in safety critical applications such as public buildings and escape passages.

Sentrin FRI and FRX treated timber can meet the requirements of national Building Regulations where Euroclass B or C are required. These fire performance properties do not compromise critical engineering properties such as strength, durability, corrosivity and hygroscopicity.

Treatment is carried out under controlled factory conditions. The process is ISO 9001 accredited and our productions centres hold Factory Production Control (FPC) certification. A computer controlled treatment process ensures the correct retention of fire retardant to achieve the required classification. Sentrin FRI & FRX are impregnated fire retardant and cannot be applied by hand, brush or spray. It provides a level of confidence in performance that may not be available with treatments applied on site or in uncontrolled conditions.

Internal Fire Retardant Treatment

Sentrin FRI is fire retardant treated timber which is suitable for use in internal applications, including areas with high humidity. It is a WPA Type HR treatment and the wood is capable of achieving Euroclass B. Typical examples of uses include internal cladding and linings, plywood and joinery.
Sentrin FRI is pressure impregnated under controlled conditions and cannot be applied on site. The treatment is designed to last for the life of the building and no maintenance is required.

External Fire Retardant Treatment

Sentrin FRX is fire retardant treated timber which is suitable for use in external applications directly exposed to the weather. It is a WPA Type LR treatment and the wood is capable of achieving Euroclass B. Typical examples of uses include external cladding, decking and boundary timbers.

Sentrin FRX is pressure impregnated and heat cured under controlled conditions and cannot be applied on site. The treatment is designed to last for the life of the building and no maintenance is required.
